What is Live-in care?

Live-in care is a great option for those who need round-the-clock support with daily activities, medical care, companionship, or respite care. With live-in care, a dedicated caregiver will be there to assist you 24/7, ensuring that you can continue living in the comfort of your own home. Live-in care can be tailored to your unique needs, providing you with the personalized support you require. If you’re looking for a way to maintain your independence while receiving the care you need, live-in care may be the perfect solution for you.

Here are some key aspects of live-in care

  • Continuous Presence

Unlike visiting care, where caregivers visit the individual's home at scheduled times, live-in caregivers reside in the individual's home on a full-time basis, providing continuous support and assistance.

  • Comprehensive Care

Live-in caregivers offer a wide range of services to meet the individual's needs, including personal care assistance with tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, medication management and mobility support.

  • Nutrition and Hydration

Live-in caregivers can prepare meals according to the individual's dietary preferences and restrictions, ensuring that they receive proper nutrition and hydration.

  • Household Support

In addition to personal care, live-in caregivers will help with light housekeeping tasks such as laundry, cleaning, and tidying up, as well as grocery shopping and running errands.

  • Companionship

Live-in caregivers provide companionship and emotional support to the individual, engaging in conversation, activities, and social interaction to promote mental and emotional well-being.

  • Safety and Security

Having a live-in caregiver provides an added sense of safety and security for individuals who may be at risk of falls or other accidents, as well as peace of mind for their family members.

When can live-in care help?

Live-in care can provide much needed support in a wide range of circumstances, providing comfort, companionship and reassurance. We only recruit the most friendly, compassionate people to our care teams – their focus is on giving you exactly the help that you need.

Distant family

If your family is unable to visit or provide the ongoing help you need, then a live-in carer can often be the answer, providing the whole family with reassurance.

Preventing loneliness

For those living alone, having a live-in carer means always having someone there – not just for help, but for companionship too.

Physical frailty

Age makes it tougher to do things that we’ve always taken for granted. A live-in carer can provide helpful, professional support, especially with personal care tasks and managing the household.

Managing dementia

For those with advanced dementia who shouldn’t be alone, a live-in carer provides that essential presence and support.

Physical disabilities

If you have significant physical challenges and need continuous assistance both at home and in getting out and about, our carers are trained to help.

Palliative needs

If you have a progressive or life-limiting illness, you may need round-the-clock care, not only to manage your symptoms, but to help make the most of the life you have.

While live-in carers are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week, everyone needs a break. Live-in carers are entitled to having at 14 hours per week to themselves, this is typically broken up to 2 hours each day. We will ensure that this break will line up with either a family member visiting or potentially a time when the client will go for a nap. If the client cannot be left alone and a family member cannot cover the break, then we could arrange a visiting carer at additional cost.

You are welcome to contact us for an informal chat to explore the Live in Care service further. If you decide that this service is suitable for you, we will arrange a pre-assessment visit to the person’s home who requires care.
